What happens when age-old ice golas meet the modern food truck craze…TANGOLA !!!!

BucketList.Asia is today, covering this new brand which sells ice golas (which is also known in India as Barf ka gola, chuski or gola ganda) in cute little customized autos (kinda like a mini food truck).

Started in May 2018 by Koushik Bokkisa in Nellore, Tangola currently sells over 20 flavors of ice golas in 5 food trucks across Nellore, Hyderabad and Vijaywada.

So how did it all start?? Well, it was apparently Koushik’s brother and wife, Ram and Rithika respectively, who thought of this simple idea to sell ice golas (which according to Ram is yet to gain popularity in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh) on a food truck. After finalizing in on the idea and doing a lot of brainstorming and research, Koushik zeroed in on the design, look of the auto, menu and recipes …and voila – Tangola was born.

On the business side of things, the company has already started franchising and currently both of their trucks in Hyderabad are franchised. When queried about the investment and ROI, Ram claimed that their first food truck costed them INR 4 Lakhs, which they recovered in just 4 months.

With regards to future plans, the company has plans to launch smoothies made from millet milk in a couple of months. Ram said he was not aware of any other F&B brand that were making such smoothies and launching them would make them the pioneers in this space. On the operational side, they plan to expand into Chennai via both trucks and kiosks.

Claiming to be India’s 1st ice gola truck brand (as per their website – www.Tangola.in), the company said their USP is not just their uniquely designed truck but also the usage of RO mineral water in making these golas and also the taste of their flavors. Speaking of the latter, Ram revealed that kala khatta and butterscotch were their highest selling flavors (that’s right BUTTERSCOTCH …who would have thought right??).

Oh before we forget – apart from selling the traditional ice golas which they call stick gola, they also serve spoon golas, slushes, sodas and mocktails. You can try them at these locations: 1) in Nellore (Near Bawarchi Hotel in the morning and opposite to Children’s Park in the evening). 2) in Hyderabad (near Mettuguda Metro Station & near Malla Reddy College in Kompally), 3) in Vijayawada (in Eluru Road & Sathyanarayanapuram Food Court, in Gulabi Thota & Indira Gandhi Stadium Food Court)
