You have bars and then you have swim up bars. While most, if not all of us would have been to the former…not all would have experienced the latter. So, first things first, what is a swim up bar?? Well, it’s basically a bar placed in the middle of the pool that requires patrons to swim to access it. The best part is – that most of the times, the bar stools are submerged in water so you get to enjoy your drink and bar snacks while literally sitting in water.
BucketList.Asia is today bringing to our readers Ubud’s first swim up bar. Called Folk Pool & Gardens, this swim up bar is a beautiful and relaxed space to chill out, thanks to its daybeds, bale, sun longer and picnic chairs. The relaxing, playful and fun ambience along with a with food range from vegetarian to grill and drinks just adds to the charm of the place.
Oh wait…that’s not it…they also have an open air evening cinema (seasonal). So, once you are done lazing out the afternoons at the swim up bar or their day beds, you grab some popcorn and head over to the cushy garden area to watch their movie screenings which is held every Saturday of the month. Our pro tip – The screenings are free of charge and being open seats – go early and grab a good spot.
Speaking to BucketList.Asia on the idea behind creating such a place, Folk Pool & Gardens said, “The idea was to create a laid-back food and beverage destination that embodied the culture and vibe that Ubud is known for. The space was inspired by your Balinese neighbours backyard. Although a little more current, all art and landscape elements are sourced and styled with a Balinese/Javanese aesthetic in mind. Folk Pool and Gardens caters to the lifestyle of the modern traveller looking for a bit of Ubud nostalgia that it’s known for. The space doubles as a seasonal outdoor cinema during peak months while it’s swim-up bar, joglo restaurant, outdoor daybeds and pergolas provide a much-needed respite on a daily basis.”
Ambience apart, the folks at Folk Pool (I’m sure they get that a lot) have given a lot of importance to their menu as well. Their head chef Roy Qira, who is Balinese himself has been behind crafting tasty food to guests from the last 2 and a half years. While Margarita Pizza and Seriously Good Fried Rice are said to be their most popular food items, Tropical Mojito, Strawberry Margarita, Long & Refreshing: Calm Down, The Signature: Ginger Cosmopolitan, Bubbles: not just a lychee, are said to be their most popular/interesting drinks. Craft Beer lovers are not ignored either. They serve many craft beers such such as Black Butte Porter and Tuatara Sauvinona.
So – head to this beautiful place when in this serene Indonesian town and let us know how it was.
