It’s raining micro-breweries in India, especially in Bengaluru. Every other month we hear of a new one opening up. And honestly, we were kinda hoping the next big watering hole to write about should be anything but that. Not that we don’t like beer, (drinking or writing about it), but like they say, too much of anything is bad.
Our prayers seem to have been answered with the launch of Gylt, a cocktail bar and club, that opened its doors to the residents of India’s Silicon Valley, in April 2019. Founded by Pravesh Pandey, Ajay Gowda, Rolf Marren, Bharat Ram and Premkumar Sundarmurthy, this two-floor venue is where one could experience luxury nightlife, experiential & innovative cocktails and a premium selection of liquor.
So for all Bangaloreans (or is it Bengalureans now), who want to give craft beer a break, this is the place to head to!!
So what’s special? What makes this place stand out?? Well, first and foremost, it’s the cocktails itself. The curation of these alcoholic drinks are said to be driven by the philosophy of spirit forward recipes, wherein they use natural ingredients, crystal clear ice that is shaped specifically for each recipe (now, that’s attention to detail) and premium liquor.
Their cocktails menu includes a selection of Sours, Gin & Tonics, Martinis and 11 Upstairs cocktails, which btw are the GYLT signatures. However, the ones they are particularly proud of are – ‘The Glass of Water’ & ‘The Crown’. While the former is a spirit-forward cocktail that looks deceptively like a simple glass of water, the latter is the cocktail that represented them at the Singapore Cocktail fest, this year. Their best-selling cocktail, however, is said to be ‘Amethyst’, whose vibrancy in colour and personality is said to have a very refreshing flavour on one’s palette. (Now you know what to have, when you head there)
What more…well, all these are prepared by an experienced team of mixologists that is headed by Rohan Matmary. Yes, he is the same person who was recently titled the world’s most experimental bartender by Glenfiddich, the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch Whisky.
Moving on, apart from cocktails, Gylt has also given a lot of importance to the food they serve. This department is headed by Chef Sabyasachi Gorai, who is the recipient of the distinguished President’s award for his culinary genius. So, you are sure to find plenty of delectable bites & super foods that can be paired with those super cocktails.
The final factor which makes this place stand out is the stunning interiors. It seems to have a medieval theme to it, with running stone walls, beautifully framed mirrors, magnificent doors opening to plush interiors, 20 feet tall glass display racks and crystal chandeliers. The credit for the same goes to architect Soumitro Ghosh.
So all-in-all, this place we feel would definitely not disappoint you and in fact should be on your must-check-out nightlife places in the city. Oh, and before we forget, here are some tips for our readers – GYLT been at the forefront in curating theme-based ensemble nights. Some of its events in the past were inspired by Game of Thrones and American mafia. So do follow them on social media for such updates and visit them during those events, to make your night-out even more memorable.
Until next time…cheers!!
